Reed Says Time to Withdraw Troops from Iraq (posted March 26, 2006)
Senator Jack Reed has called on President George W. Bush to withdraw American
troops from Iraq. Appearing on the WLNE-TV show "Six News on the
Record", he said based on his seven visits to Iraq that it was time for
a "rapid redeployment". As long as American troops are in Iraq,
Reed argued in regard to the Iraqis, "pressure to take tough decisions
is not on them....They have to take up that burden."
Reed indicated he was optimistic about Democratic gains in the upcoming 2006
midterm elections. He said many issues favored the Democrats, but that he
believed "we have to offer positive programs." He predicted
Democrats would coalesce around common policies as the election neared.
