Senator Whitehouse Says AG Gonzales Must Go (posted
April 15, 2007)
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse criticized Attorney General
Alberto Gonzales' handling of the replacement of U.S. Attorneys and said
"the man has to go." Appearing on the WLNE-TV Show "Six News
on the Record", Whitehouse said Gonzales had "difficulty in telling
the truth." The administration wanted "loyal Bushies" in the
job and Whitehouse said it was unfortunate in how intrusive Bush staffers
were becoming in the American judicial system. "The politics ends the
day you are sworn in," Whitehouse noted.
Host Jim Hummel quizzed Whitehouse on his Democratic presidential preferences
in 2008. Whitehouse has not endorsed anyone yet, but described Senator
Hillary Clinton as "fantastic", Senator Barack Obama as the most
"inspiring" person he had met, and Senator Chris Dodd as
"extremely bright and able".
