Appearing on the WJAR-TV show "10 News Conference" with Jim Taricani and Bill Rappleye, the governor complained that Michaud was paid $100,000 in consulting work on corporate governance by Beacon Mutual Insurance Company and that his candidacy was a front for public sector unions upset with some of the governor's policy decisions. "People are not happy that I am challenging them," he said. In response to the rapid pace of the campaign, Carcieri has moved his own campaign announcement up to June 7. "I was hoping to get through the [General Assembly] session, but the season has started earlier." In regard to Michaud, Carcieri pointed out that "nobody has ever heard of him in the Republican party."
