Cianci's Selective Memory(posted August 30, 2001) Contacted recently for a forthcoming Newsweek article, Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci bragged about his 64 percent job approval rating in a Brown University survey conducted in June after his indictment. But somehow during the interview, he forgot to mention to the reporter that the same survey also revealed that 50 percent of Rhode Island voters think he is not honest and 41 percent believe he is guilty of corruption. Perhaps the mayor assumed a prominent national reporter would not do his homework on checking out the entire poll. However, the reporter was amused to find out in an interview with pollster Darrell West the full range of results found in the Brown University survey. |
