Is Patrick Kennedy Running for the U.S. Senate in 2006? (posted Sept.
16, 2004)
Representative Patrick Kennedy is running against David Rogers for re-election
to the House of Representatives, but a recent Kennedy fundraising invitation
raises questions about his longer-term objectives. Someone forwarded
the following email invitation to me regarding an upcoming Kennedy fundraiser
in California:
"The event is October 13th, 5-7 pm at Norman Lear's House. Congressman
Kennedy (R.I.) is preparing himself for a Senate run which he has a
very strong chance of winning. Ted Kennedy will also be in attendance.
They're looking for a thousand a head and those that pay a thousand
will get an opportunity to come early and chat with Patrick and Ted."
Who knows if Kennedy actually will be running for the U.S. Senate in
2006, but if he enters the race against Chafee (and possibly Steven
Laffey), it certainly will make for an interesting campaign!
