Bradley Outraises Gore (posted October 17, 1999)
The third quarter federal campaign reports are in and Democratic presidential candidate Bill Bradley has outraised Vice President Al Gore and has more cash on hand. According to Federal Election Commission filings, from July to September, Bradley raised $7.4 million to $7.3 million for Gore. Bradley furthermore has more cash on hand ($10.7 million) for future spending than Gore ($10.3 million). The news is surprising given the incumbent advantages of a sitting vice president and the fundraising assistance Gore has garnered from President Bill Clinton.
Both candidates trail Texas Governor George W. Bush, who raised $20.2 million in the third quarter. He has $37.3 million in cash on hand, far outdistancing Republican rivals John McCain, who has $2 million on hand and Steve Forbes, who has $1.4 million.
