GOP Attacks Kennedy (posted October 22, 2000)
Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island has become a target for the national Republican party in certain legislative races around the country. In a radio ad broadcast by the Republican Majority Issues Committee (a group tied to House Majority Whip Tom DeLay), Kennedy is lumped with other liberal icons such as Jane Fonda, Representative Barney Frank, and the Human Rights Campaign Fund (tied to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance) in an attack on Utah Democrat Jim Matheson. The commercial being broadcast in the Salt Lake City area notes that Matheson is being supported by these individuals and has taken money from groups "whose goals are different from most Utahans".
