Chafee Leads Pack (GOP poll) (posted January 11, 2000)
According to the Providence Journal, a new survey commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee shows that Senator Lincoln Chafee has gained eight percentage points in trial matchups with talk show host Arlene Violet and Congressman Robert Weygand. The survey, conducted in mid-December with 393 likely voters, shows Violet up by two percentage points and Weygand down three percentage points.

If the Democratic nominee is Richard Licht, Chafee shows a 10-percentage point pickup over the last Brown University survey conducted in September. According to the survey, Violet's numbers have dropped by five percentage points since September, while Licht has dropped three points.
