Dems Lead in Issue Handling (posted November 11, 1999)
U.S. voters have greater confidence in the ability of Democrats to handle leading issues than is true for Republicans, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News national survey. Based on a poll of 953 registered voters across the country conducted November 4-7, 1999, voters see the Democratic party as more able to protect the environment, improve health care, handle Medicare, improve education, handle Social Security, and caring about people like you. The only issues where the GOP is seen as stronger include making sure U.S. military defenses are strong, having high ethical standards, upholding family values, and reducing crime.
