Reed Plans Brief in Court Case
U.S. Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island today plans to file a "friend of the court" brief in the upcoming Supreme Court case, Nixon v. Shrink Missouri Government PAC. This case coming out of a Missouri Court of Appeals addresses the subject of how low campaign contribution limits can be set in state government.
In 1994, Missouri enacted a law that restricted campaign contributions to $1,075 per candidate for an entire election cycle, which is much lower than current federal law of $1,000 per candidate per election per year.
Reed's brief will argue that the court should uphold the legality of the Missouri contributor limits.
